TFC PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME
 
 
Mission Statement
The TFC Performance Training Programme aims to offer the most comprehensive sabre training available in the UK in preparation for the 2012 Olympics, giving our athletes the tools to achieve world-class results, and a building a future for generations of international fencers.
 
Background
Funded by commercial sponsorship, the programme is approved by British Fencing.  All athletes on the programme will receive free training, fitness, nutrition and sports injury advice.  Elite athletes will receive some competition funding and a top-up of living expenses.  Other athletes will receive limited competition funding.  Foreign sparring partners will be contracted in to strengthen the training squad, and will be offered free accommodation and living costs. Funding will be provided through major corporate sponsors, and is in the region of £120,000 per annum to London 2012.
 
Personnel
The programme will be staffed by a resident Head Coach and Assistant Coach, complemented by a Fitness/Conditioning Coach and an Administrative Assistant.
 
Head Coach - Peter Frohlich
Leading the TFC Performance Programme is the Hungarian master and one of the world's most respected sabre coaches, Peter Frohlich.  As well as GB Olympic Sabre Coach in 1992, 1996, 2000 & 2008, Peter was the national coach of Hungary in the 1980s, and has coached many World and Olympic medallists.
 
Assistant Coach - Jon Salfield
Jon is Head Coach at Truro Fencing Club, and has coached the British Junior team at two World Championships, and the 2007 Universiade.  Jon has produced numerous successful young fencers, including World Youth Championship finalist James Honeybone and Junior World Cup finalist Katie Hendra.
 
Fitness Coach, Nutritionist, Sports Massage Therapist - Sian Whitmore

Administrative Assistant    
The programme will be supported by an assistant who will manage the budget, assist athletes and coaches with travel and accommodation bookings, and help with day-to-day running of the programme.

Training
Starting in January 2009, elite day-time training will initially take place in a temporary venue, with 3-5 pistes.  Evening training will take place at Truro Fencing Club. By June 2009 the full programme will be in place, and by the end of 2009 it is expected that a purpose-built/converted full-time fencing venue with 8-12 pistes and complementary facilities will be used for all fencing activity.
 
The programme will comprise:
Daytime training - 3 hours every morning, Monday-Friday
Evening training - 2.5 hours every evening, Monday-Thursday
 
The programme will be led by Peter Frohlich, assisted by Jon Salfield.  Training will include individual lessons, footwork training, pairs exercises, conditioning training, sparring etc.  Training in Cornwall will be augmented by regular training camps in Hungary .

FAQs
Is the TFC Performance Programme open to all ?
No the programme is an Elite programme. However we welcome visiting sparring partners of a suitable standard - please contact the Programme Manager

Will more athletes be joining the TFC Performance Programme ?
It is possible that funding for more athletes may become available - please contact the programme manager if you are interested in joining .

How is TFC Performance Programme funded ?
The TFC Performance Programme is funded through commercial sponsorship, and managed by the TFC Gold Foundation. TFC Gold funds donated by private individuals specifically towards the founding of a permanent fencing venue will not be used for funding the programme.

 
The TFC Performance Programme welcomes visiting sparring partners of a suitable standard, as well as applications from high-level fencers who are interested in being included as additional members of the programme.  If you are interested or would like more information, please contact:
